Workshop #2: Celebrity Collaboration

What is the key to designing a kitchen for a world-famous artist whose works are
prized by celebrities and royalty? An artist with a strong enough sense of form
and function to be her own architect?

Collaboration.

Ulla Darni's views about visual impact are distinctive and informed. As her lamp-
art web site says, "Welcome to the illuminated world of Ulla Darni… unbounded
creativity, expressed in fabulous colors, materials, designs and joyous feelings."

When Pat first met with Ulla, the kitchen area was still in the planning stages.
What was already planned was Darni's wish for a special overall look: feminine,
elegant, European.

More than 20 meetings later, the kitchen area had grown to 680 square feet,
windows had been repositioned by Pat and Ulla, Pat had added a bay window with a built-in window seat — and the collaborative result was a gorgeous outcome to delight the eye and please the practical needs of Ms. Darni and her artist-husband, Lawry Swidler.
